
Our philosophy, sharing a vision

You have a vision for your company. Ours is to make that a reality. To do so, we use the following formula: powerful words + powerful imagery = compelling communication. We don’t have a set style or signature graphic design approach. But we do have a firm belief that the most fruitful way to work is hand-in-hand with our clients. There are lots of graphic design firms who forget about the client in their race to win awards or use the latest gimmick. Things are a bit different at Vortex.
Our clients see the value of sharing their knowledge with us. They want more than “pretty” design gingerbreaded with trendy colors or techniques. They want our expertise in creating communications that powerfully integrate the right words with the right design solutions. To achieve this, they are willing to share all they know about their product or service. And rather than dictate graphic design solutions, they are willing to work and share ideas with us. They believe, as we believe, that together we can accomplish much more.

How we work. The big picture.

The big picture looks something like this: we work to close the gap between your product or service and your target audience. It isn’t just a matter of deciding on a vehicle or vehicles, such as a website or the graphic design of a brochure or ad campaign.
It is a matter of knowing intuitively what to say, how to say it, and all the steps needed to communicate it. Both in terms of design language and words. Experience is part of that intuitive sense. But really, it’s a kind of magic. Clients wonder how that happens. We don’t think it matters.
The point is, we present a concept, sometimes with a few variations. And then the fun begins. We ask you to try to tear the concept apart. We play devil’s advocate one more time (we’ve already done plenty of it before we presented the concept.) And then...if the concept holds up... we move forward. If not, we go back and either refine the concept or start over.
It’s our willingness to change our minds, to not be in love with our ideas, that makes us good at what we do. After 20 years in the business, we’ve tweaked the process pretty well, and are extremely efficient at coming up with the right ideas. But we’re never so arrogant to think that there isn’t another, perhaps better, solution.
Once the concept development is complete, it’s time to produce it. And that’s something we know more about than just about anyone around. We’re careful with your budget. We know if we handle the project right, you’ll call us again.
And while we’re not cheap, we’re fair. If we think you can get the job done by going to the copy shop around the corner, we’ll tell you.
